DINO! - PETE WILLCOX
Pete Willcox has been a singer
forever and an impressionist even longer, born that way, he
guesses.
"I remember doing John Wayne for
my Dad, and he just went nuts," Willcox recalls. "I've been
doing impersonations ever since."
Impersonations were always
something that came easy for Willcox. He remembers trying to
sound like "the guy on the record" even as a kid.
After the death of Elvis, the
artform of impersonation took on a new dimension, and performers
began to even dress like the artists. The fun for Willcox was
that he could do several impressions, from Roy Orbison, to John
Lennon, to Elvis. All were very popular in impersonator shows,
and he mastered each of them. Two of Willcox's favorite
celebrities to portray are Dean Martin, and Elvis Presley (whose
favorite performer was Dean Martin!)
"The funny thing about Dean was
that he was my number one," Willcox says. "I thought he was so
cool. I remember thinking I could never be like that, and that
I'd never be that old. But guess what? Time keeps moving and now
I'm old enough to do Dean."
Willcox has perfected Martin's
mannerisms and singing style, and audiences are continually
mesmerized by his entertaining, dead-on performance in "The
Tribute to Frank, Sammy, Joey & Dean." Willcox loves portraying
Martin in "The Tribute" and enjoys paying tribute to such a
special star.
